McClean Vineyards
The vineyard, also known as Michael and Judy's backyard, is situated on a southwestern aspect, rising over 1,100 feet above sea level. Facing the Templeton gap of Paso Robles (a spot many consider to be the heart of Central Coast wine production), the site is a testament to the long-prevailing notion that a special piece of land, no matter how small or inconspicuous, can affect grapevines in a special way. With total plantings covering just over fifteen acres, the McClean's vineyard is particularly well-conditioned for Syrah. Combinations of clay and limestone soils act as catalysts for full, healthy, and rich grapes. As for the size of the vineyard, Michael and Judy are strong supporters of the timeless adage, quality over quantity. Along with being able to taste the impact of the soils in the finished wine, you can also taste the impact of the vineyard's size, evidenced by a stunning concentration of fruit flavors.

"The 2005 is extreamly smooth... A crowd pleaser. Definitely a good wine to end a hectic week at the office!" - Suvy "The 2005 is a very interesting wine. It developed well from glass one to three. Nice red fruit and just the right tannic composition. A little too much alcohol for me but nice all the same. the color was beautiful and supported the anticipation of fruit and finish. get some if you can. great with food." courtsey of snooth.com |
